Webster Parish Sheriff’s narcotics officers have arrested a local man for stealing firearms.
Skyler L. Martin, 24, of the 17,000 block of Hwy. 79, Minden, is charged with simple burglary, possession of a firearm by a felon, illegal carrying of a weapon, possession of methamphetamine and a warrant for resisting an officer.
“Our office received a report of stolen firearms from a location north of Dixie Inn on Hwy. 371,” Sheriff Jason Parker said. “Throughout the course of the investigation, officers received information regarding a suspect – Martin – who had a warrant through us.”
Investigating officers reportedly received information to obtain a search warrant, which was executed.
“When Martin opened the front door of his address and observed officers approaching, he attempted to flee on foot through the residence,” said Parker. “He was apprehended at the back door.”
During the search and in plain view, several firearms were reportedly located in the living room.
“Also in plain sight was a baggie of suspected methamphetamine, along with digital scales, needles and a pipe,” the sheriff said. “They were in close proximity to the firearms.”
According to the sheriff, during questioning, Martin admitted to gaining access to the property, entering the dwelling and stealing the firearms without the owners permission.
