Lions learn about 4-H

The Minden Lions enjoyed having Laynie Smith as guest speaker during their Thursday, June 2 club meeting.

Laynie has served as Webster Parish 4-H agent since September 2019. She informed Lions about how 4-H provides a unique, hands-on educational experience for students in fourth through twelfth grade. They learn about science, healthy living, agriculture, civic engagement, and leadership.

Laynie reported that 4-H is the largest youth organization in the nation. Currently, more than 330 students across Webster Parish are enrolled in 4-H, and Laynie’s goal is to increase enrollment by more than 200 members in 2022-23. 4-H gives students exposure to shooting sports, livestock, overnight camps and experiences, and school/parish/state level contests.

For more information about how students can participate in 4-H, call (318) 371-1371 or visit Laynie’s office at 1202 Homer Rd. in Minden.
