Upcoming Fan Drive hosted by Walker Holding Group/Smart Foundation

The summer months are upon us and that means high temperatures and even higher utility bills. Minden has the highest utility rates in the state, many families cannot afford to run their air conditioning units constantly throughout the summer, so they either go without cool air or go into debt trying to keep up with costs.

The Smart Foundation and Walker Holding Group are partnering again to host their annual “Michael and Chequella Walker Fan Drive.” The fan drive has been very successful in past years, donating more than 100 fans to local families in need.

“We saw a need in the city to help those less fortunate stay cool during the summer,” said Phillip Smart, Executive Director of The Smart Foundation. “We are just trying to help those in need. Afterall, this community is our family and family look out for one another.”

If you would like to help support this appreciable cause, you can donate new box fans or make a monetary donation for a fan or fans to be purchased on your behalf. Drop off will take place on July 4 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 112 W Roosevelt Drive in Minden.

If you have any questions, you can contact Phillip Smart at 318-607-5123, Michael Walker at 318-210-1799, or Chequella Walker at 318-707-3532.
