SSGT James Wood ‘Jimmy’ Megehee

SSGT James Wood “Jimmy” Megehee was born 22 April 1940 at Picayune, Pearl River County, Mississippi.  He was the only child of James Megehee and Mildred B. “Bill” Megehee.  He was survived by his parents, his wife, Patricia, and two sons, Nolan and Michael. His home state was Minnesota. 

Jimmy was in 15 Med. Battalion, 1 Air Cav. Division of the Army of the United States. He was a machine gunner on a medical evacuation helicopter and was nearing completion of his third and last tour in Vietnam when his helicopter was shot down by enemy fire over Binh Long Province, South Vietnam. Jimmy was a highly decorated member of the United States Army. His service occupation was listed as Aircraft Maintenance Crewman. He was a door gunner.

His military marker ready James W. Megehee, Louisiana, SSG 15 Med Bn. 1 AIRCAV DIV, Vietnam SS-AM &20LC-PH. 

His body was recovered and he was buried at New Palestine Cemetery in Picayune, Pearl River County, Mississippi, USA. 

He will be honored at our Armed Forced Day Celebration.  Please remember his sacrifice and the freedom he gave us.
