Tuesday evening, April 29, Central Elementary School held their 3rd Annual National Elementary Honor Society (NEHS) Induction Ceremony.
NEHS is a program designed for all elementary schools. It recognizes the accomplishments of the students’ academic achievements and responsibilities at home, school and in the community. Central Elementary was the first elementary school in Webster Parish to facilitate this program and that is much to the credit of Faculty Advisor Joni Aulds. The Central Elementary School Chapter of NEHS is also made up of faculty council members- Lacey Berry, Shannon Hall and Jenifer Francis.
Guest speaker for the induction ceremony was Lakeside High School Principal Ashley Hooter.
“This is a big deal, and you should be very proud of yourselves,” said Hooter. “Being chosen to join this honor society is not just about what you have already done, which you have some great accomplishments, it’s about what you are going to continue doing. You are still growing and learning and this group in front of me, you are going to be tomorrow’s leaders.
Hooter is looking forward to the impact these students are going to have at Lakeside High School as they continue their education.
“You are going to be the leaders when you get to Lakeside Jr./Sr. High School. This is just the beginning for you. I see the best of Central Elementary in each of you. Remember what makes you the most proud should not be receiving this honor, but what you did to receive this honor.”
Four candles were lit representing the four pillars of the NEHS – Scholarship, Service, Leadership and Responsibility. As the students’ names were called, each one lit their own candle from the pillar that they felt best described themselves and stated their reasoning.
