Council votes to condemn nine properties

The heir to the Elijah Jones Estate at 1216 Apple Street was granted 60 days to clear the property.

In their continuing efforts to clean up Minden, members of the city council were faced with nine condemned properties during their Monday meeting.

Three properties on Apple street, one on Goodwill, South and South Abney streets, as well as two properties on Camp Street, one on Red Bud and one on Lewisville Road were unanimously condemned and property owners given a certain amount of time to clear them.

With only District D Councilman Michael Roy absent, all business was approved unanimously, including the following items:

• Adopt resolution amending the City of Minden 2024-2025 budget;

• Adopt resolution adopting the City of Minden’s public records request policy, procedures and fees;

• Adopt resolution adopting the City of Minden’s condition rating of the street system policy;

• Adopt a resolution requesting La DOTD Division of Aviation provide funds required to complete improvements at Minden Airport;

• Adopt resolution authorizing Mayor Nick Cox to execute an agreement with La. DOTD for improvements at Minden Airport;

• Reappointment of Sedric Moody to Minden Municipal Fire and Police Service Board;

• Reappointment of Jamie Williams to Minden Municipal Fire and Police Civil Service Board;

• Authority for Mayor Cox to accept a quote from CivicPlus for software that will assist in the creation and management of city council meeting agendas, livestreams, minutes etc.;

• Authority for Mayor Cox to enter into an agreement for professional services between the City of Minden and Waggoner Engineering, Inc. (Industrial Drive rehabilitation at Hwy. 531);

• Authority for Mayor Cox to execute a purchase agreement for property located at 636 Shreveport Road and 101 Horton Street for the appraised value of $250,000;

• Authority for Mayor Cox to execute Amendment No. 1 to a maintenance agreement including mowing and litter pickup between the City of Minden and La. DOTD Office of Engineering;

• Opt out of Governor’s Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness’ temporary housing and shelter assistance program;

• Promotion of Sgt. Mitchell Hackett to rank of police lieutenant;

• Budget and Financial report for July 2025;

• Fire report for August 2025; and,

• Police report for July 2025.
