This is off of my normal column. Did you know that the newest thing is using beef tallow for many things? What is tallow? Tallow is animal fat usually from beef or mutton. It is solid at room temperature and used in cooking, skincare and many other uses. It is made by heating and clarifying animal fat to remove the impurities, resulting in a stable fat with a high smoke point suitable for frying. Tallow contains saturated and monounsaturated fats, as well as fat-soluble vitamins like A, D, E, and K and can be used to make soaps, balms, and candles.
I’m new at this and after researching tallow it looks to me like a refreshing ointment for skin care. Tallow is cool and to put it bluntly, it just feels good. We discovered a small business in Ville Platte, by small I mean two women. One is a nurse and the other is a cattle farmer. Now that is a small business. They create their product in the kitchen. These ladies have added jojoba oil and a perfumed oil for scent.
You can use this product as a face moisturizer, eczema creme, and for windburn. I wish that my dad had this when he was milking cows. The chemicals for cleaning the dairy was very harsh to his hands to the point of wrapping them up. We used the unscented on an employee to help with his new tattoo healing. Good for sunburn and can be used as a beard oil.
I never thought that Minden Farm and Garden would be the new dealer for Tallow. I’m so proud of these women, first for a small business, and second for being entrepreneurs. It comes in several flavors, including honey, Marie Laveau, unscented, Ava Maria, Sweet Home(lavender), Rouge Revival, and the newest is Evangeline’s Roses(like a rose garden). These women are now collaborating with a new candle company. I’m trying to get those too. We small, local business have to stick together.
