· What is your role with the LSU AgCenter, and how long have you been in Extension?
I joined the LSU AgCenter in February of 2024 as the Assistant 4-H Youth Development Agent. As the 4-H Youth Development Agent, my job is to help young people learn new skills, have fun, and grow into strong leaders. I visit schools to run 4-H club meetings, and I oversee several programs like Shooting Sports, Cooking Club, and Junior Leaders. I also help plan events and make sure our members have exciting opportunities, like camps, contests, and service projects.
· What inspired you to pursue a career in Extension?
I was inspired to join the Extension team because I actually grew up in this program. I still remember all the opportunities 4-H gave me—the leadership experiences, friendships, and the valuable life skills I learned along the way. Those moments shaped who I am today. My mom was my 4-H agent when I was younger, and I always thought she had the coolest job. And honestly… I still do! Being able to come back and give those same experiences to the next generation is exactly why I chose this career.
· What programs or areas do you specialize in?
I specialize in all thing’s youth development. That includes leading our school clubs, overseeing the Shooting Sports program, coordinating 4-H Summer Camp, running Cooking Club, and guiding our Junior Leaders. Each of these programs gives young people a chance to grow, learn new skills, and discover what they’re passionate about. My goal is to create opportunities where youth feel supported, included, and excited to learn.
· What do you enjoy most about serving your community?
What I enjoy most about serving my community is getting to know all the amazing kids in our parish. I love giving them fun and unique experiences so everyone can find the ‘thing they love.’ The best part is seeing someone start out quiet and shy and then grow into a confident, outgoing leader, that’s what makes my job so special!
· What is one goal you’re excited to work on this year?
One goal I want to work on this year is spreading the word about 4-H to more junior high and high school students. There are so many awesome opportunities for them—like scholarships for college, award trips around the world, service projects, and tons of fun experiences. I want to make sure they know everything 4-H has to offer!
