Friday the 13th wasn’t a lucky day for a Benton teenager who now sits in the parish prison after he allegedly pointed a firearm at a student on the campus of a parish school.
Sheriff Jason Parker said 19-year-old Jayden A. Young is charged with carrying a firearm on school property and aggravated assault for the incident which occurred at Doyline High School on March 13.
Maj. Bobby Igo III, head of the Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division, said Doyline School Resource Officer Jeremy Wiggins received a complaint of the incident on the following Monday (March 16) and immediately contacted investigators.
According to the complaint, Young allegedly drove onto school property where he allegedly pulled a firearm and pointed it at a student. The student reportedly told Young not to point the weapon at him, then walked away. Young reportedly left the scene. No one was injured.
During the course of the investigation, Igo said investigators collected text messages, viewed photos and security video and obtained statements from witnesses to collect enough evidence to bring Young in for an interview.
“We had to be very thorough in this investigation because of the seriousness of the charge and the fact that it happened at one of our schools,” Igo said. “Our students deserve a safe environment, and we’re going to ensure they have it.”
Igo said Young was cooperative during his investigative interview, and admitted he had the firearm on school property.
Young is being held at Bayou Dorcheat Correctional Center under a $50,000 bond.
