• What is your role with the LSU AgCenter, and how long have you been in Extension? I currently serve as an Assistant County Agent for Claiborne and Webster Parishes and point of contact for 4-H livestock in Webster with the LSU AgCenter, and I have been an Extension agent for eight years.
• What inspired you to pursue a career in Extension? My passion for agriculture began long before I officially joined 4-H. I was raised on a small family farm with horses and cows, where agriculture was part of everyday life. My father, an agriculture teacher and FFA advisor, had a profound influence on me. I frequently accompanied him on home visits with his students and spent many hours helping in his school greenhouses, growing tomatoes and poinsettias. Agriculture has always been a part of who I am.
I officially joined 4-H in the fifth grade and was fortunate to learn from exceptional 4-H and Extension mentors such as Robin Bridges, Dora Hatch, Mike Dixon, and Charlene Carver. Their guidance played a significant role in shaping my path and inspiring my career in Extension.
• What programs or areas do you specialize in? I specialize in horticulture and 4-H livestock programming for Webster Parish.
• What do you enjoy most about serving your community? I enjoy educating others and helping them gain the knowledge and confidence to succeed in their agricultural pursuits.
• What is one goal you’re excited to work on this year? This year, I am excited to continue strengthening the Webster livestock program by collaborating with local FFA chapters, conducting school visits, and hosting a livestock interest day. I am also looking forward to working with Dr. Williams and the Webster Parish Library to introduce a seed library to Webster Parish.
