A Minden man who forgot to turn on his headlights, has been arrested by Minden Police on more serious charges.
Shederrick Tyrelle Shine, 34, of the 1100 block of Shreveport Road, is charged with possession of Sch. I with intent to distribute, possession of drug paraphernalia, flight from an officer, obstruction of justice, resisting an officer and open container.
Minden Police Chief Steve Cropper said one of his officers was traveling east on Shreveport Road when he noticed a dark vehicle with no headlights leaving a convenience store.
“The officer followed the vehicle to see if they would turn on their headlights, but when they didn’t after a few blocks, the officer attempted to initiate a traffic stop,” Cropper said.
The vehicle reportedly did not stop and turned into a Shreveport Road motel.
“Once the vehicle did stop, the officer observed the driver of the vehicle throw a bag out of the passenger window,” Cropper said. “At that point, the officer called dispatch and requested more officers.”
According to reports, the officer told the male suspect who exited the vehicle to stop.
“The man continued to walk to a motel room door and began banging on it,” the chief said. “Lt. Joel Kendrick then used his pepper gun and issued two shots of pepper spray at the suspect. Lt. Kendrick then put him on the ground and placed him in handcuffs.”
Officers reportedly searched Shine and found loose cash. A search nearby recovered the bag that was thrown out of the vehicle.
“Inside the bag was a clear gallon-size bag that contained a green substance that was suspected Marijuana,” Cropper said. “While searching the area, officers located a large bundle of cash under the vehicle. Inside the vehicle was an open beer can.”
Shine was reportedly placed in a patrol car and began to kick the rear door to the point where he bent the door outward, creating a gap.
According to reports, the officer then sprayed Shine a second time. He was check by EMS and sent to MPD for booking.
