A poor choice of a resting place has cost a Minden man his freedom.
Sylvester Thomas Coleman Jr., 28, of the 600 block of Columbia St., was arrested by Minden Police for obstruction of justice, aggravated obstruction of a highway of commerce and resisting an officer.
Minden Police Chief Steve Cropper said when his officers were patrolling the Columbia Street area recently, they were flagged down by a female driving a red Chevrolet Camaro.
“The woman told officers there was a man lying in the middle of Columbia Street,” Cropper said. “The officers found him there and identified him as Coleman. He was blocking one lane of traffic with a long brown object hanging from his mouth.”
When the officer opened the door to his patrol unit, Coleman reportedly stood quickly and removed what was identified as a Marijuana cigarette from his mouth, placing it in his right pocket.
“Another officer retrieved a small green baggy containing synthetic Marijuana and the Marijuana cigarette from Coleman’s pocket,” the chief said. “They placed the baggy on the hood of the patrol car, and Coleman leaned over and retrieved it with his mouth.”
Cropper said when officers tried to take the baggy from Coleman, he reportedly swallowed it.
Coleman was booked at the Minden PD and transported to Bayou Dorcheat Correctional Center.
