Cullen police arrest man for battering girlfriend

Cullen Police have arrested a local man for assaulting his girlfriend.

Troy Roth, 47, of Murphy St., Cullen, is charged with battery of a dating partner, domestic abuse battery by strangulation and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

According to reports, police were dispatched to the 300 block of Nelson St., where they talked with a female subject who claimed Roth hit her as she was trying to walk away from an altercation.

She reportedly stated she was trying to call for help, but Roth took her phone, and as she tried to run away, he grabbed her with both hands around her neck, choking her.

When the female subject was finally able to get away from Roth, she told police she ran to a neighbor’s home for help. She also said Roth had a gun on his person and she was afraid he was going to use it.

Officers reportedly located Roth sitting in front of his vehicle on East Road. A 9mm firearm was located in the vehicle.
