Speeding on Homer Road has landed a Bossier City woman in a local jail.

Candice Michelle Cooper, 35, of Voss Drive, Bossier City, was arrested by Minden Police for possession of Sch. II Methamphetamine, possession of drug paraphernalia, 2 counts of theft, speeding (65 in a 45 mph zone) and driving under suspension.

Minden Police Chief Steve Cropper said Lt. Chris Hammontree and K9 officer Tigo were passed Sunday afternoon by a gray BMW on Homer Road.

“Lt. Hammontree caught up to the vehicle and not only was the driver speeding, but she was not wearing a seatbelt,” Cropper said. “While on the stop, headquarters advised the driver of the vehicle was involved in a theft at a local shoe store and that her driver’s license was suspended.”

Lt. Hammontree reportedly asked Cooper to step out of the vehicle and Mirandized her.

“Post Miranda, Cooper admitted to stealing a backpack and shoes from the store and the items were in the vehicle,” said the chief. “Lt. Hammontree asked if there were narcotics in the vehicle. Cooper said no and then denied consent to search the vehicle.”

Hammontree reportedly retrieved Tigo from his patrol unit.

“Tigo performed an open air sniff of the vehicle and alerted on it,” Cropper said. “During the search, Lt. Hammontree and Off. Jason Smith recovered the stolen property, along with additional items that appeared to be stolen.

“Officers later found out the items were stolen from a local discount store,” he continued. “Also during the search, they located 2g of Methamphetamines, a burnt Marijuana cigarette , 1.6g of natural Marijuana, 181 unused syringes, 2 tourniquets, rolling papers and a used Meth pipe.”
