Parish battle in Springhill as Lakeside and North Webster square-off

As the prep football season enters the home stretch and district play begins to heat up, Lakeside and North Webster will battle for bragging rights and playoff hopes at Baucum-Farrar Stadium.

The Warriors and Knights have both endured plenty through six weeks of play. The Warriors are fresh off a loss to Lincoln Prep, while the Knights dropped a tough one in week six to district foe Bossier, making it four-straight L’s for North Webster.

Both teams will look to right the ship against the other.

As for Lakeside, the Warriors are entering Friday’s game with a 3-2 record following last week’s loss to Lincoln Prep.

The big play and speed of the Panthers killed the Warriors as they gave up 44 points to the visitors. The Lakeside defense has had difficulty all season containing the big play. While the Panthers’ quarterback did prove deadly on his feet, it was through the air that cost Lakeside the most.

However, the defeat wasn’t without positives for the Warriors. The team scored three second half touchdowns and refused to quit even when down by a large margin. The Warriors running game also clicked for the second week in a row as senior Ashton Stewart had his second consecutive 100-plus yard rushing performance.

On the other side, the key to avoiding a fifth-consecutive loss will be the North Webster defense led by linebacker Jatareon Robinson and defensive back Jamarcus Stephens.

On the other side of the ball, the Knights will try to exploit the Lakeside defense by sticking to their ground game, led by Stephens, quarterback Collin McKenzie and their large offensive line.

The game is also important for both schools’ playoff chances, as Lakeside and North Webster have both dropped near the cut line for playoff participation.

Kickoff from Baucum-Farrar Stadium is set for 7 p.m.
