One Constitutional Amendment survives voters

By Bonnie Culverhouse

In last Saturday’s election, Webster Parish voters gave all four Constitutional Amendments a resounding thumbs down.

But on the state level, Amendment #2, which lowers the maximum allowed rate of income tax and allows providing a deduction for federal income taxes, managed to survive.

Webster Parish voters, with a turnout of 11.6 percent (2,790 voters), voted 1,375 (49 percent) for the amendment and 1,415 (51 percent) against.

On the state level, with 413,242 voters, 223,269 (54 percent) voted in favor of the amendment, while 189,973 (46 percent) voted against.

The other three amendments were defeated on the parish and state levels.
