Cotton Valley man pulls gun in church meeting

By Bonnie Culverhouse

A Cotton Valley church was the scene of a disturbance that included a firearm Wednesday.

Wilson Ronnie Wood Jr., 39, of Earl Street, Cotton Valley, was taken into custody by Cotton Valley Police Chief Michael Dickey and charged with aggravated assault with a firearm.

Dickey said he received a call from Webster Parish Sheriff’s dispatch of a male inside the church causing a disturbance with a firearm.

When the chief arrived on the scene, he made contact with the pastor, who stated there was an altercation inside of the church when Wood reportedly stood up during a meeting, pulled out a semi automatic handgun and pointed it at another member of the church, stating he would shoot that member.

Dickey reported that he made contact with the subject’s father and learned that Wood had been off medications for three months because he was “unable to get them filled.”

The chief was able to take Wood into custody and to the Cotton Valley Police Department where he met with a coroner. From there, he was transported to Minden Medical Center to see a physician and later to Bayou Dorcheat Correctional Center.
