Lions club speaker bridges gap between college, high schools

Robert McGuire

Guest speaker for this Thursday’s meeting of the Minden Lions Club is Robert McGuire.

Robert has been in the education field for the past 18 years, teaching in both formal and informal settings. He currently serves as the dual enrollment coordinator for Northwest Louisiana Technical Community College, acting as the primary contact between the college and area high schools.

Robert is a native of Southern California and graduate of California State Polytechnic University in Pomona with a degree in animal science. He later obtained his master’s degree in molecular and cellular physiology from LSU Health Shreveport. Robert has worked in many of the technical fields represented at NLTCC, such as transportation, hospitality, construction, plumbing and HVAC. Robert and his wife, Ashley, live in Bossier City.

This summer, Robert will lead a manufacturing-themed camp called “Manufacturing Your Future 2022: Inspiring Young Makers.” Students ages 12-14 will tour manufacturing facilities, learn about entrepreneurship, and meet top industry experts. They’ll also experience hands-on opportunities with NLTCC instructors, utilizing a CNC machine, welding, learning about electricity and driving the CDL 18-wheeler virtual trainer. This camp is scheduled for June 27-30.

The Minden Lions Club meets Thursdays at noon at the American Legion Memorial Home, located at 119 Pine St. in Minden.
