Visit Webster Parish is hosting a Moonlight Paddle Pop-up this Saturday, July 9, along Bayou Dorcheat. Participants will meet at the Dixie Inn boat launch at 5:45 p.m. to drop off their boats and begin shuttling their vehicles to the final destination located at the Sibley launch.
They will launch the boats at 6:30 p.m. and plan to stop about halfway for snacks and refreshments.
They are asking everyone, specifically locals to participate in this event.
“We are really excited to see a lot of locals get involved in what we are doing,” said Serena Gray, President, and CEO of Visit Webster Parish. “I think that’s going to make a big difference as we continue to see foot traffic come in and you bump into a visitor at a store, and they ask you what is there to do around here. The more opportunities we provide for people to get outdoors to see and do what we have to offer, the more likely they are to relay that information to a visitor.”
If you cannot make it Saturday, Visit Webster Parish will be hosting another one next month.
“These are specifically planned for when the moon is at its highest and brightest, so we are not flexible on the dates when we can host these. We have done this before on a small scale with our kayak group out of Shreveport- Bossier, just to make sure it is safe and we know what we are doing,” said Gray.
With Louisiana summers reaching temperatures well over 100 degrees, this is a wonderful way to beat the heat. Just bring your boats, paddles, life jackets and headlamps for this moonlit tour down the bayou. If you do not have a boat of your own, there are still plenty available for rent through Dorcheat Bayou Rentals. Give them a call at 318-403-3440.
