Minden Lions enjoyed an educational and, at times, humorous presentation on birds during Thursday’s club meeting. MHS English teacher and Nature Club sponsor John Dillon provided the program entitled, “Don’t Be a Dodo: Myths, Misinformation, and Mumbo Jumbo About Birds.”

John spoke about the lore and science surrounding birds and cleared up many misconceptions about our feathered friends (e.g. those aren’t actually buzzards…they’re turkey vultures, and birds don’t fly South for the winter, they fly North for the summer). He also offered the Lions advice on selecting the best bird seeds, provided organic substitutes for chemical herbicides, and how to make the perfect hummingbird food.

John was invited and introduced by Lion Henry Bridges.
