
Guest speaker for Thursday’s noon meeting of the Minden Lions Club will be Sherrie McMurray, zone chairman for Lion District 8-L.
Sherrie was born and reared in Franklin Parish and has resided in Webster Parish all of her married life. She is married to Tommy McMurray and they have raised two children, Joe McMurray and Angella McMurray Pope. They have one grandson, Preston.
Sherrie has been a member of the Minden Evening Lions Club since 1999. In her local club she has served as tail twister, lion tamer, board member, membership chairman and is a three-time past president. She currently serves on the Cub Sight Eye Screening Committee for the Minden and Minden Evening clubs.
On the district level, Sherrie has served as zone chairman several times. She is currently serving as zone chairman for the 2022-2023 term. Sherrie has served as district secretary three times and district treasurer twice. She is currently serving as district secretary under District 8-L Gov. Terry Harkey.
Sherrie has received from different International Lions Presidents: the Letter of Commendation in 2010-2011; the Certificate of Appreciation in 2013-2014; and the Certificate of Appreciation again in 2019-2020. Sherrie is also a Melvin Jones Fellow.
She was honored for her community service in 2018 by being named Minden’s Woman of the Year.
Sherrie will be introduced Thursday by Lion Buddy Crawford. She will be accompanied by Lion Dru Brown, president of the Minden Evening Lions Club.
