Minden Police arrested a local man Sunday evening for physically abusing a juvenile.

Anthony Kelly, 35, of the 100 block of Robinson Dr., Minden, is charged with cruelty to a juvenile and domestic abuse battery with child endangerment.

Chief Steve Cropper said Sgt. Mitch Hackett and Off. Matthew Hicks were dispatched to the Robinson Drive residence in reference to a reported battery.

“The caller advised she had captured the battery on her security cameras,” Cropper said. “When the officers arrived, the female showed them the video, which showed a male identified as Kelly walking up to a male juvenile and slapping him in the face, causing him to fall to the ground.”

According to the video, Kelly lifted the juvenile from the ground by the neck and they began walking.

“Kelly then slapped the juvenile in the back of the head as they were walking,” said the chief. “After that Kelly upper cuts the juvenile in the stomach causing him to fall to his knees. Then, they continued to the residence.”

When officers made contact with Kelly, he was reportedly mirandized and asked about the incident.

“Kelly stated he only disciplined his son,” Cropper said. “He was arrested and the juvenile’s mother was contacted. The juvenile suffered a busted lip and abrasions on his chest.”

Kelly was booked at Minden PD and transported to Bayou Dorcheat Correctional Center.
