Dixie Inn moves forward with police issues

By Tina Montgomery

The Village of Dixie Inn Board of Aldermen decided to move forward with several issues pertaining to the Police Department at their regular meeting on September 13.

Chief James Edwards had made a request to move to part time employment with the Village. Mayor Donna Hoffoss explained, “He’s been working with the Sheriff’s Department at Richardson School as a resource officer. He will stay on part time to help train an officer for Chief.”

Hoffoss said they will start looking to hire another officer soon for the department. Chief Edwards will still be instrumental in re-establishing the Reserve Officers’ program while reducing his working hours and duties with the Police Department.

The Board also approved the order for a new Ford police truck. Hoffoss said it takes a long time to actually get the truck so that cost will be taken into consideration with next year’s budget.

The Board of Aldermen for the Village of Dixie Inn meets the second Tuesday of the month at 5 p.m.
