Man steals from property owner; tries to sell back to him

A Minden man is in jail for stealing property from a Town of Sibley employee.

David Hawk, 54, of the 17000 block of Highway 80, is charged with simple burglary.

Webster Parish Sheriff Jason Parker said Sgt. Josh McCormick, Deputy Spencer White and Sibley Police Officer Josh Davis responded to a direct call made to Davis by the Sibley employee in reference to someone stealing from his property.

“When they arrived on scene, the property owner was talking with Hawk,” Parker said. “According to the property owner, he arrived at the residence and found Hawk in the yard taking apart his dining room table.”

Hawk then reportedly attempted to sell the property owner two dog houses and an aluminum boat.

“He didn’t realize he was talking to the property owner,” said the sheriff. “The property owner said the dining room table came from inside the mobile home on his property, but Hawk would not admit he had been in the trailer.”

The arrest report states that it was early morning and even though there was dew on the grass, there was none on the table.

“Hawk admitted none of the property belonged to him,” Parker said. “He was arrested and booked, and he has a lengthy history of thefts and burglary arrests.”
