Daylen Robinson rushed for 160 yards and three touchdowns while Jakobe Jackson added 170 yards through the air with one touchdown to lead the Minden Crimson Tide past Bossier’s Bearkats 33-6 Friday in a District 1-4A contest at The Pit.
It was the Tide’s first district win, bringing their record to 1-2 in the league and 2-4 overall. Bossier remained winless in 1-4A at 0-2 and fell to 1-6 for the year.
After the defense forced a punt on the ‘Kats’ first possession, Minden literally held itself out of the endzone until just under eight minutes remained in the first quarter. Holding penalties cancelled a 44-yard Jackson touchdown run and a 39-yard Jackson to Cameron Mitchell endzone strike, but the third time proved to be the charm.
A 40-yard pass from Jackson to Robinson set the stage for Mitchell’s 10-yard scamper to paydirt and the Tide was finally on the scoreboard 7-0.
With just 1:49 remaining in the first quarter, Minden capped a 64-yard flag-free drive when Jackson found Mitchell in the corner of the endzone from 26 yards out, putting the Tide up 13-0. A Robinson 20 yard scamper with a screen pass set the stage for the score.
Minden took a 20-0 lead into halftime on the strength of Robinson’s first touchdown of the night, a 70-yard run with 3:48 left in the second quarter. The senior running back broke through right tackle, avoided one linebacker and outran the Bossier secondary to paydirt.
While the Tide defense kept the Bearkats’ offense under control, Robinson added a pair of scores in the third quarter to put the game out of reach. At the 9:28 mark, Robinson bulled into the endzone from five yards out, then pushed his way to score from one yard away just four minutes later.
Bossier’s only score of the evening came on a 14-play, 95-yard drive after recovering a fumble that ended another Tide scoring opportunity. Quarterback Quintarion Scott, who had taken over when starter Tre Christor went down with an ankle injury, accounted for the lion’s share of the yardage and squeezed across the goal line with two minutes remaining in the game.
Robinson finished the night with 15 carries for his rushing total while Jackson had 46 yards on 13 attempts. Mitchell had 36 yards on six carries and one touchdown. On the passing side, Jackson picked up his yardage on an 11-for-16 night. Mitchell had a big receiving game for the Tide with 100 yards on seven catches. Robinson had 65 yards with three catches.
Overall, Minden had 412 yards in total offense while the Bearkats managed only 150 total yards, with 95 of that coming on its final drive. The Tide defense forced three turnovers on the night with a fumble recovery and a pair of interceptions.
Next up for the Crimson Tide is another tough 1-4A matchup with the Northwood Falcons next Friday on the road at Northwood Stadium. Bossier will meet BTW in its next district contest Friday.
