A local resident was arrested last week by Minden Police after a complaint was filed against him for stealing.
Alexander Lee Gonzalez, 24, of Constable St., Minden, is charged with theft, simple burglary and unauthorized entry of an inhabited dwelling.
Chief Steve Cropper said Sgt. Jason Smith, Ofc. Jason Lee and Capt. Kirk Morgan responded to a call from the 1100 block of Shreveport Rd.around 8 a.m. Friday and talked with the owner of the stolen material.
“That person witnessed the theft and tried to intervene,” Cropper said. “He said he arrived at his property and witnessed a male wearing a ski mask and purple hoodie, later identified as Gonzalez. He saw Gonzalez removing items from his property.”
The chief said the two struggled and Gonzalez broke free, running north though a trail behind a local motel.
“Capt. Morgan walked the trail and located all missing items except a Stihl chainsaw and battery,” said the chief. “The trail ran to a specific room at the motel, where it seemed obvious someone was living due to bedding and multiple items in the room, such as three cell phones and a digital camera.”
The chief said Reserve Officer Dison entered and cleared the room, while the other officers continued on the trail and Sgt. Smith talked with the motel manager who reportedly said no one had authorization to inhabit the room.
“Ofc. Lee located and arrested Gonzalez on the trail,” Cropper said. “He admitted post miranda that he took a Craftsman chainsaw, trimmer, Ditch Witch bag and machete, however, he said he did not take the Stihl chainsaw and battery.”
A hotplate and bedding located in the motel room were reportedly from a recreational vehicle at the theft site.
