Security cameras catch alleged thief

Security cameras at a local business caught an alleged thief in the act and led to his arrest.

LaBarron Keith Johnson, 21, of the 100 block of W. Roosevelt St., Minden, was arrested by Minden Police and charged with simple burglary and theft by fraud – both felony charges.

Minden Police Chief Steve Cropper said cameras caught Johnson entering the business and taking a battery back-up for the security cameras.

“Detectives were able to identify the suspect as Johnson and, after looking online, found Johnson took the battery back-up to a local pawn shop where he received $50 for it,” he said.

Cropper said Det. Keith King observed Johnson riding in a vehicle, stopped it and detained him.

“Johnson admitted to the burglary and stealing the back-up,” said the chief. “He also admitted to taking it to the pawn shop and received $50 cash for it.”

Johnson was later transported to Bayou Dorcheat Correctional Center.
