Shooting ends in arrest

It took Minden Police barely more than 30 minutes to make an arrest in a shooting incident that took place before noon Tuesday.

Zytwone D. Robinson, 18, of the 1200 block of Fulton St., Minden, is charged with aggravated second degree battery and illegal use of a weapon.

Chief Jared McIver said officers responded to a gunshot victim in the 1300 block of Young Street around 11:45 a.m.

“The victim had a bullet wound in the back of the leg,” McIver said. “He was taken to Ocshner’s LSU in Shreveport with a non life-threatening injury.”

McIver said MPD officers, Webster Parish Sheriff’s deputies and City Marshals immediately began canvassing the area.

“Witnesses came forward and identified the shooter and his clothing,” said the chief. “Lt. Chris Hammontree tracked the subject using his K9 partner. Hammontree made visual contact with the subject walking on Columbia Street.”

McIver said all officers in the area converged on Robinson and he was placed under arrest by 12:17 p.m.

“Robinson admitted to the incident and took us to where he hid the weapon that he said was used to shoot the victim,” McIver said. “It was a 9MM found underneath a nearby house.”

The shooting reportedly stemmed from an altercation earlier in the day between the two males.

“Supposedly the victim struck the suspect in the mouth,” McIver said. “The suspect said he then retaliated by shooting him.”
