Miss Minden day was one for the girls

By Paige Nash

Saturday was a day for the girls. The Young Women’s Service Club held their 70th Annual Miss Minden and Spirit of Fasching Scholarship Competition at the Minden Civic Center.

The events kicked off that morning with the Little Miss Minden program, allowing young ladies ranging from newborn to 14 years of age a chance to compete for a title. The pageant was separated into divisions by age.

Hayslee Roden took home the Baby Miss Minden division. The Toddler Miss Minden title went to Brenley Berdan. The Tiny Miss Minden winner was Kristlyn Carter. Hadlie Beck was crowned the new Mini Miss Minden. The Pre-Teen Miss Minden winner was Presley Wood and the Junior Miss Minden title went to Kynzie Smith.

The exhilaration of the morning continued into the evening where 3 teens and 7 young women competed for multiple titles, scholarship money and a chance to compete in Miss Teen Louisiana and Miss Louisiana.

After rigorous interviews with the judges, nerve-wracking on-stage questions, talent and evening gown portions of the pageant were complete, the judges tallied their final scores. While awaiting the results the 2022 title holders, Miss Minden Outstanding Teen Olivia Blackwelder, Miss Spirit of Fasching Outstanding Teen Izzy Gray, Miss Spirit of Fasching Courtney Patterson and Miss Minden Anna Claire Lemoine, had a chance to say their final goodbyes.

After much anticipation the winners were announced.

In the teen division, Brittany Odom took home the Miss Minden Outstanding Teen title along with Miss Congeniality and talent award. Jolie Ortego was crowned the 2023 Miss Spirit of Fasching Outstanding Teen and was awarded the evening gown award, also now known as the Hannah McFarland Style Award in honor of the late 2007 Miss Minden Hannah McFarland. A new title, Miss Bayou Dorcheat’s Outstanding Teen, went to Ainsley Doyles.

All three teens will have the chance to compete for the Miss Teen Louisiana title later this year.

The 2023 Spirit of Fasching went to Aliyah Armstrong.

Jacie Brent was crowned the new 2023 Miss Minden. Along with her Miss Minden title Brent also won Miss Congeniality, the Hannah McFarland Style Award and the talent award.

With her crown, Brent received a $1,500 scholarship from the Young Women’s Service Club and $500 to help with her wardrobe expenses to assist in preparing for Miss Louisiana and a year full of appearances as she represents the City of Minden.
