Raffle tickets are already on sale for the Minden St. Jude Auction playhouse.
“Each year our team of firemen, local business owners, friends and family gather up with Haley Robinson and I to dream of the new playhouse that we will design for the next St. Jude auction,” said Laura Spillers. “Once the theme is decided Haley and I begin tossing around ideas creating vision boards before the firemen dig in with the real work of making our vision come to life.”
Slogan for the 2023 auction is “Wave Goodbye to Cancer,” and Spillers said this year’s playhouse plays off that theme.
“We designed a space with hammock chairs, a wishing wall, bar top table, counter space equipped with a shave ice and smoothie maker,” she said. “It’s decked out with all of the Hawaiian Surf Shack Vibes.”
Another tradition the team holds dear as a part of the design is including local patients’ names – past and present.
“This year we thought it might be special for some of them to help us with a little art project,” Spillers said. “Patients and/or family members painted fish that we will use as part of our decor. Other names will be creatively added in painted waves throughout the house.”
Photos of the playhouse are “under wraps” until closer to the auction.
