Jurors see prison cells up close and personal

Dave Tierney with Maximum Security Systems attended Tuesday’s Webster Parish Police Jury meeting to demonstrate the prison cell that will be put on location at the new women’s prison. The facility will sit on approximately 5 acres of land located on Penal Farm Road.

Each cell will hold two prisoners. The cells include two beds with a sink, mirror and toilet. These cells will be stacked by two and are already built and ready to go. The plan calls for 64-66 beds in total.

The WPPJ has been busy working on the land on Penal Farm Road where the new prison will be located. It has been cleared

 with stumps removed.

All that stands in the way of the prison opening is getting the main building constructed. According to Webster Parish Sheriff Jason Parker, the main building will be 100 x 100 metal building. The plans also include an exercise area and parking.

After that project is complete, they will begin moving the already pre-built cells to the location.

The prison is expected to be open and fully functional by the end of the year. They will begin transporting prisoners as soon as it is completed.

The WPPJ budgeted $214,000 for this facility. The Webster Parish Sheriff’s Office will be covering the overage.
