Armed robbery results in arrest

Webster Parish Sheriff’s deputies have arrested a Minden man for robbing another at gunpoint.

Darryl W. Kemp, Jr., 22, of the 1100 block of Syrup Mill Rd., is charged with armed robbery, obstruction of justice, possession of marijuana and prohibited acts.

Sheriff Jason Parker said around mid-afternoon Thursday, deputies were dispatched to a Sibley address in reference to an armed robbery.

“Deputy Richard Mitchell talked to the victim who said someone named ‘Ben’ pointed two pistols at him while Kemp took $750 out of his pocket,” Parker said. “The victim said he met Kemp on a social media marketplace and was able to provide a photograph, along with his name.”

The victim also reportedly told deputies that Kemp and “Ben” left in a blue Ford Ranger pick-up truck.

“Lt. Coby Barton located the truck parked in the yard of the Syrup Mill Road residence,” said the sheriff. “Kemp approached Lt. Barton from near where the truck was parked and said ‘I know why you are here.’”

Lt. Barton reportedly located two small bags of suspected marijuana in a trailer near the truck. He was given verbal consent by Kemp to search the truck and he located a scale near the driver’s side under a generator.

Kemp was transported to the sheriff’s office where he allegedly admitted to being present during the armed robbery. He reportedly left the scene, drove to his house and failed to notify law enforcement of the crime.

There is no information available on the person referred to as “Ben.”
