Arson leads to attempted murder charges

An 18-year-old and a juvenile are under arrest after setting a residential shop on fire last Wednesday night.

Devon Jones, 18, and the 16-year-old juvenile are charged with one count of aggravated arson, two counts of attempted second degree murder and trespassing.

Jared McIver, Minden Police Chief, said a resident on Pine Street noticed smoke on his security camera system and called police and the fire department.

“The males entered the shop, found some chemicals, poured them on the floor and set them on fire,” McIver said. “They gained access through the back door; they went back to that area and started a secondary fire and left.”

McIver said the shop is attached to an apartment building, where the owners live.

Police made the arrests working in conjunction with the State Fire Marshal.
