On Ash Wednesday of each year, Christians throughout the world begin the season of LENT in preparation for EASTER. This year EASTER is celebrated on April 9. Everyone is invited and encouraged to attend all these Easter activities.
On April 2, at the 10:55 Sunday Morning Service, the Chancel Choir of the Springhill United Methodist Church, 104 4th Street N. W. in Springhill, Louisiana, will present an Easter Cantata, “When I Survey the Wondrous Cross”, arranged and orchestrated by Russell Mauldin.
“Come behold the wonder of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Imagine His earthly ministry culminating in a jubilant celebration as He entered Jerusalem, knowing all along that HE must win His victory by becoming God’s redeeming Lamb. Following His death, the lifeless body of our Lord was taken from the cross and laid in a borrowed tomb. But sometime between the sun going down on their grief on Saturday, and dawn on Sunday morning, something miraculous and glorious happened. Sorrow was erased by one victorious shout and today we stake our lives and our eternity on this truth: Jesus is alive! He has risen, just as He said He would!” This Easter Musical will be under the direction of Lindy Dyson, Director of Music.
An Easter Egg Hunt will be held that same afternoon at 3:00, for children three (3) years old through the 5th grade at the Methodist Youth Building at the corner of Church Street and Highway 371 in Springhill. All are asked to bring their Easter Baskets.
On Thursday, April 6, there will be a Holy Thursday Service in the SUMC sanctuary at 6:00. The Chancel Choir will sing “They Crucified My Lord”, a traditional Spiritual based on “He Never Said a Mumblin’ word” and arranged by Joseph M. Martin. Holy Communion will be served to all who wish to participate.
The Ministerial Alliance in Springhill is supporting the GOOD FRIDAY Service that will be held on April 7, at 6:30 P. M. at the Harrison Chapel Baptist Church located at 409 Patterson Street, in Springhill, Louisiana. The topic of this service is, “Seven Last Words of Jesus!”
Then a community wide EASTER SUNRISE SERVICE on April 9, at 7:00 A. M., will take place at the New Era Community Methodist Church, located at 3713 Columbia Rd 3, Emerson, Arkansas 71740.
The public is also invited to attend the Easter Resurrection Sunday Worship Service at the SUMC at 10:55.
