Graduation ceremonies for the four Webster Parish high schools will be held on different nights in May and that’s good news for planners, parents and friends, Superintendent of Schools Johnny Rowland told members of the parish school board Monday.
“None of the ceremonies will be held on the same night for our four high schools,” Rowland said. “It took a lot of planning by school administrators and staff, and we’re happy we could come up with separate days for these very special occasions.”
Rowland said Lakeside High School will be first in line with ceremonies scheduled Monday, May 22 at 7 p.m. in Minden’s First Baptist Church. Doyline High School will follow on Tuesday, May 23 at 7 p.m., also at First Baptist.
North Webster High School’s grads will receive diplomas at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 25 and Minden High School will close the graduation season Friday, May 26 at 7 p.m. Both North Webster and Minden ceremonies will be on school grounds.
Rowland also told board members construction on the new Minden High softball field was progressing on schedule. He said the contractor is working on dugouts and other facilities at the field, located on the grounds of the former Lowe Alternative School near the fairgrounds.
School board members agreed on a change of meeting dates, setting Tuesday, May 30 as the date to discuss budget amendments and moving its regular meeting date to Monday, June 12.
In other business Monday, the board approved a number of projects to be funded by various district maintenance funds, one building fund and a sales tax fund.
Included in those projects were $18,000 to “finish out” the concessions building at North Webster J. High’s football field, and another $8,000 for North Webster Jr. High to repair and reseed the football field’s playing surface. Projects will be funded by the Sarepta Maintenance Fund. Wooten Contraction LLC was awarded the contracts.
