Shriner’s director brings message of hope to Lions

Guest speaker for Thursday’s noon meeting of the Minden Lions Club will be Jennifer Martin, director of development for Shriners Children’s Shreveport.

In March of 2018, Jennifer joined Shriners Children’s Shreveport, the world’s first Shriners Hospital. Shriners is a pediatric specialty hospital treating children with orthopedic issues, cleft lip and palate, and more, regardless of the family’s ability to pay. Shriners Shreveport treats more than 19,000 children providing services, treatments, rehab, surgery, and other care for children up to age 18.

Jennifer’s background covers a broad spectrum – from tourism to healthcare to state government. Prior to Shriners, Jennifer worked at the United Way, the Council on Alcoholism and Drug Abuse, Williams Creative Group, LSUHSC and in the tourism industry.

Jennifer has worked on both sides of the communications having written for The Forum News, City Life Magazine, and as a community columnist for The Times. She is a graduate of LSU-Shreveport with a bachelor’s degree and is also a Certified Fundraising Executive (CFRE).

She believes that happiness is a choice, and that a person’s circumstances do not have to define them – which is why she was drawn to Shriners.

Jennifer will be introduced Thursday by Lion Patony Morrow.

Minden Lions meet at noon every Thursday at the American Legion Hall on Pine St., Minden.
