The Young Women’s Service Club (YWSC) held their Annual Induction Meeting on Monday, May 8, at Orleans on Main.
The YWSC is comprised of women throughout the area who have a heart and desire to serve their community. They volunteer their time to assist in various events held in the parish as well as hosting their own events throughout the year to raise money that goes directly back into the community. Some of the club’s recent events include, Dunking Booth at the Duck Derby, a Cajun Fryer Raffle, Nursing Home Bingo, Minden Civitan’s Toy Drive, Little Miss and Miss Minden Pageants and St. Jude Kid’s Day.
New Board President Elizabeth Campbell said, “We have been able to give back to a family who lost their home in a fire, as well as to a local family who lost their infant tragically.”
The YWSC members serve a 6-year term and participate in various roles within the club.
Cayla Cox served in one of those roles as President for the 2022-2023 year. She was diagnosed with breast cancer shortly after accepting this new role.
“While this meant that Cayla could not make it to all our meetings, she still made it to most, she was absolutely the most fearless, giving leader for us,” said Campbell. “She worked behind the scenes making sure that everything ran smoothly, that we as a club had all the tools we needed to still help our community. We are so thankful and appreciative for Cayla for prioritizing, motivating, and leading us during one of the worst times of her life.”
Cox along with 3 other members, Lauren Herriage, Marsha Hayes and Pamela Irby, who completed their 6-year service term were honored at the induction ceremony.
After dinner, former YWSC President, Rebecca Bower, accepted the invitation to formally induct the 2023-2024 board. She spoke to the group about the mission of the club, reminded the new and old members why they serve and how they can continue to help the community.
The new 2023-2024 board is President Elizabeth Campbell, Vice President Jessica Marks, Recording Secretary Gillian Davis, Corresponding Secretary Brandi Cade, Treasurer Morgan Monday, Reporter Baily Wilkins and Give Back Fund Director Melody Shelley.
