Thanks to a very special grant, Minden Police Department and Webster Parish Sheriff’s Office will have more officers on the streets during the upcoming 2023 Click It Or Ticket campaign.
“Our officers will be enforcing this law,” said Minden Police Chief Jared McIver. “We will be stepping up enforcement beginning May 22, 2023.”
As part of the national Click It or Ticket campaign, MPD and WPSO, along with agencies around the country will be paying overtime for officers and deputies to watch for persons who are not wearing seat belts.
“Memorial Day weekend kicks off the summer vacation season, and we want to make sure everyone arrives at their destination safe and sound,” McIver said. “If you are not wearing your seat belt, you will be ticketed.
Around 61 percent of drivers do not wear seat belts at night, which is when the majority of unbelted fatalities occur.
Law enforcement will write citations with zero tolerance day and night during the campaign, which concludes June 4.
“We are determined to bring those numbers down,” McIver said. “There are too many people that are dying on the roads and many of those deaths could have been prevented if people took the simple step of wearing seat belts.”
