Ron Rucker, a Vietnam veteran, Purple Heart recipient, and Army Ranger Hall of Fame member, spoke to Mr. Logan Cammack’s American History class on Tuesday at Lakeside.
Rucker shared stories of his time in the war, his love for country and the sense of duty he felt to enlist during the 1960s. His stories included tough tales of long, rainy nights in Asian jungles and firefights on the ground and in the air.
Mr. Cammack asked Rucker, who lives locally, to speak to his class after reading about him in numerous books on the time period.
“It’s not everyday you get to have a true military legend and American hero come to your school and speak to its young people,” Cammack said. “We want to thank Mr. Rucker for his time with our students and his service to our nation.”
