United Way rep teaches Lions about organization

Tori Thomas, executive director, United Way

By Tracy Campbell

It was a packed hour at our noon Lions Club meeting Thursday. After our regular club business, Lion Carleton Prothro served as our guest Tail Twister and told an Arkansas Razorbacks joke to those in attendance. Lion Dr. Richard Campbell initiated our newest Lion, Rev. Leon Boggs, into membership. Then Tori Thomas, executive director of United Way of Northwest Louisiana, spoke to the Lions about United Way and how the non-profit fights for the health, education, financial stability, and essential needs for residents in its 10-parish region. She touted programs such as the Dolly Parton Imagination Library, Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) and the 2-1-1 Call Center. Ms. West was invited and introduced by Lion Phillip Smart.

Minden Lions meet at noon every Thursday in the American Legion Hall on Pine Street.
