Pearls donate cash to good causes

The Pearls of Purpose ladies along with their supporters gathered on the front porch of Huffman Manor Tuesday evening, November 7, to make a couple of announcements regarding the success of their inaugural Witches Ride of Minden event that took place just a couple weeks ago.

According to event director Sarah Watson Overall the ride pulled in more than 400 participants.

“We feel like it was a great success. We have gotten nothing but positive feedback from the mayor and the chief of police because they were very vital in helping us make this happen,” said Overall.

Plans are already underway for the 2nd Annual Witches Ride of Minden, set to take place on Thursday, October 24, 2024.

This year, Pearls of Purpose decided to support two causes with money raised from the ride. The first organization, “We’re Here, We Care,” was presented with a $5,000 check. This foundation, overseen by Minden local Patrick White, is a non-profit that focuses on community transformation with a variety of events including their upcoming Toy and Bike Drive. This event is happening from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. December 9 at 119 West Pine Street in Minden.

“We like what his (White’s) vision is and the fact that he helps children,” said Overall. “Since it was a bike ride and parade, we chose him so he could buy bikes this Christmas for kids.”

The second cause the event decided to support this year was Miller Quarters Park, the headquarters for the registration and the after party following the Witches Ride.

“There are lots of plans in the works to expand Miller Quarters and we wanted to be able to do something for the entire community, as well, for everyone to enjoy,” said Overall. “We know it is going to take money and it’s going to take the community coming together. We are hoping this can be the first little jump start to get that process going.”

Miller Quarters Park was also donated $5,000.
