In a historic achievement, Lakeside Jr. Sr. High School has become the first school in Webster Parish to receive an ‘A’ rating from the Louisiana Department of Education. The school earned the outstanding rating based on its students’ academic performance, graduation rates, and other accountability measures for the 2022-2023 school year.
“This is a proud moment for our students, teachers, staff, and the entire Lakeside community,” said Principal Denny Finley. “It demonstrates the consistently high level of achievement our students and teachers accomplish each year.”
Lakeside attributes its new ‘A’ rating to several factors, including its focus on early college preparatory curriculum including Dual Enrollment, ACT, and CLEP. Lakeside also boasts a stellar teaching staff that has intensive focus on math, science, and literacy skills at all levels. The school has made a concerted effort in recent years to raise academic standards and expectations.
“Our teachers have worked extremely hard to challenge students at the highest levels while providing the support they need to excel,” Finley said. “We’ve also placed emphasis on developing critical thinking and problem-solving abilities which prepare students for college and career success.”
Several of Lakeside’s students, sports teams, and clubs, such as FBLA, Robotics, and Literary Rally participants, have won regional and state honors in recent years. This demonstrates the school’s commitment to excellence across all areas.
Lakeside is the only ‘A’ rated high school in Webster Parish. The milestone reflects the pride and dedication the entire school community has placed on academic achievement. Lakeside sets a new standard of educational excellence for others to aspire to in the region.
“This isn’t the end goal. It’s just the beginning,” said Finley. “We will continue striving to improve each year and offer our students the absolute best in instruction and learning. I know Lakeside’s future remains bright.”
