Two fire districts will be able to improve

Saturday’s election should be official this week. Webster Parish showed around 18 percent turnout of registered voters for the state runoffs, Constitutional Amendments and tax/bond elections in the northern part of the parish.

Shongaloo Fire District No. 9 voted to continue levying a 11.41-mils tax for property in the taxation district. With a 17.1 percent turnout, the vote for the proposition was 79 percent.

Cullen Fire District No. 6 voters agreed on a bond issue that will allow construction and improvements to their fire district and equipment. Turnout of 16 percent approved the issue by 55 percent.

Statewide, the unofficial turnout was around 22 percent of registered voters.

Once-Webster Parish resident John Fleming, who still lists Minden as his residence is the new State Treasurer with 65 percent of the vote.  The new Secretary of State is Nancy Landry with 67 percent. Attorney General is “Liz” Baker Murrill with 66 percent.

Three of four Constitutional Amendments passed. The three that received yea votes were No. 1: Deadlines to Veto Bills and Rules for Veto Sessions – 61 percent; No. 2: Repeals of Inactive Special Funds in the Constitution – 55 percent; No. 3: Property Tax Exemptions for First Responders – 53 percent.

Amendment 4: Rule changes for the Revenue Stabilization Trust Fund was denied with 56 percent of the vote.
