City, community honor local heroes

Two local heroes Monday were honored by the City of Minden, Minden Police Department and Minden Police Association for saving lives.

During the Minden City Council meeting, Colin Campbell received Presentation of Courage Award in recognition of his life-saving efforts at Louisiana Tech University around 3 weeks ago, when the 18-year-old freshman took two stabbing victims to the hospital.

“It happened over in Ruston, but Colin is still one of ours,” said Police Chief Jared McIver. One of the victims did not survive, however, the other did thanks to Campbell’s efforts. He is the son of Tracy and Jennifer Campbell.

Lt. Joel Kendrick, president of the Minden Police Association, presented Minden Police OFC. Logan Clingan with a Life Saving Award for preventing a man from committing suicide. Before the man could stab himself in the neck, Clingan deployed his taser and saved the man’s life.

In addition, Minden City Council agreed to two new hires for the police department. Hunter Buchanan and Bria Cooper were unanimously approved. The two bring the number of police officers to 32, a full roster.
