The Springhill City Council made quick work of their December regular meeting held Monday, December 11, wrapping things up in a little over 10 minutes.
Springhill Main Street Manager Amie Poladian gave a short report on the success of the “Christmas on Main” events held earlier this month.
“I want to thank everyone for coming out to Christmas on Main,” she said. “It went really well. We estimate we had about 3,000 people throughout the day kicking off Christmas Downtown.”
The Springhill Chamber of Commerce hosted a Hot Cocoa Crawl along with an Elf Hunt. According to feedback from a handful of local businesses, Christmas on Main brought them record-breaking sales in the history of their store openings.
“That’s the goal of the program,” said Poladian. “I want to thank all the businesses for decorating. It is really awesome to see the town getting into the spirit of Christmas.”
In upcoming news, Poladian mentioned the North Webster High School Talented Arts Program has been working on a mural restoration project sponsored by Coca-Cola. It has been postponed but is expected to be complete by the end of the year. Springhill Main Street is looking to hold a dedication for the mural during the first week of January. More details will be released in the coming weeks.
Another major event happening on January 26 is “Mardi Gras on Main Street.” They are switching things up a little bit this year and holding the parade in the evening at 6:30 p.m. There will also be food trucks, face painting and entertainment. The theme this year is “A Trip Back in Time.”
All the items on the agenda passed unanimously, which included:
Consideration of 2024 Alcohol License Renewals, consideration of a new Alcohol License for Venus Trading, LLC., a change order in the amount of $14,513.00 for the Highway 371 drainage work, adoption of a resolution for the LCDBG 2024 Language Access Plan and payment of the Nov. 2023 monthly vendor bills totaling $107,142.
