Another Sneak Peek at the St. Jude playhouse

By Paige Nash

The Minden St. Jude Auction will soon be revealing the Playhouse for 2024.

Although there have been a few changes concerning the construction of the playhouse this year, patrons can still expect a grand outcome right down to all the tiny details everyone has come to know and love.

Hailey Robinson – along with Laura Spillers – has overseen this popular raffle item for almost a decade now.

“We’ve had a few changes where construction is concerned this year,” said Robinson. “The fire station purchased a new rescue truck at the end of 2023 and with the size of the new truck, the playhouse would not be able to fit in the bay at the station.”

According to Robinson, they had to set up a new location for the building this year, but a lot of the “regulars” still donated their time along with some fresh faces, as well.

Most may not know this, but planning for the next playhouse commences on the last night of the auction every year.

“Construction usually begins in the fall, and we try to have it wrapped up at least one week before the auction,” said Robinson.

Robinson and Spillers may oversee this build but loads of donors also contribute every year.

“We are fortunate to have so many donors. The list is long. Time, talent and materials are all appreciated,” said Robinson. A sign is displayed in front of the playhouse every year with a lengthy list of donors who contributed to the final outcome.

Another cool feature of the playhouse included every year is the incorporation of recent and current patient names into the playhouse.

Robinson said, “This year we have their names painted in the constellations on the ceiling.”
