Springhill Mardi Gras festival-goers and coordinators did not let it “rain on their parade” last Friday evening, Jan. 26. Even with the threat of rain and maybe a shower or two, the event turned out to be one of the most successful years to date.

This year, Springhill Main Street Director Amie Poladian, along with her board, decided to move the Mardi Gras event to a Friday evening instead of the usual Saturday, in hopes not to compete with the Minden parade and bring in more people to downtown Springhill.

Poladian said, “Hosting the Mardi Grad on Main Street event this year in Springhill after the night parade gave life to our city with a surge of local economic activity, attracting visitors and fostering a sense of communal pride that resonates beyond the festivities, leaving lasting positive impact on our community.”

The streets were full of festival-goers decked out in their most festive Mardi Gras gear, enjoying the various food options, entertainment and music provided by Krystal “Chica” Montez. Even a couple of stilt-walkers and jugglers could be seen making their way up and down Main Street.

The parade kicked off just after dark with miles of floats, marching bands, fire trucks and more tossing beads and goodies.

Krewe of Artemis took home the win for most creative float and dazzling costumes followed by Carter Federal Credit Union and Three Star Land & Cattle on the Mardi Gras horse.

Poladian joked that she was grateful for the support shown by Springhill and the surrounding communities, and hopes they will continue when their Spring cleaning volunteer day comes around in April.
