WPSO narcotics unit arrests Springhill man with drugs, firearms

Webster Parish narcotics officers and deputies have arrested a 29-year-old Springhill man after a traffic stop Wednesday resulted in more than just a ticket.

Capt. Bobby Igo III said Jaquan Lee, a resident of the 1000 block of 7th St. SE in Springhill, is in custody on a variety of charges after illegal drugs were found inside the vehicle, and more narcotics and a pair of firearms were discovered inside his residence.

“We were part of a joint investigation between WPSO narcotics and the Louisiana State Police narcotics and this suspect was a subject,” Igo said. “That investigation led Sgt. Josh McCormick to initiate a traffic stop and the vehicle pulled over at the suspect’s residence where we received permission to search the inside.”

Igo, who heads the WPSO narcotics unit, said McCormick, along with Lt. Coby Barton, Sgt. Shawn Jenkins and Dep. Damian Christian, found a suspicious item inside the vehicle, but the suspect denied any knowledge.

“We requested a K9 from Minden PD and when the unit arrived, the K9 alerted on the vehicle,” Igo said. “We then obtained a warrant and a search revealed roughly 560 grams of marijuana. Further investigation led us to ask for and receive permission to search the suspect’s home.”

Inside the residence, officers reportedly found more marijuana and a plastic baggie containing a white powder sitting atop a 9MM handgun. An AR-style rifle with two extended magazines was also uncovered, along with pills inside containers.

Lee is charged with possession of CDS Sch.I (marijuana) with intent to distribute, possession of CDS Sch. II (cocaine), possession of CDS Sch. II (Oxycodone) and possession of a firearm in the presence of a controlled dangerous substance. He is currently housed at Bayou Dorcheat Correctional Center. Bond has not been set.

“This arrest is the result of cooperation between the Louisiana State Police narcotics unit, the Minden Police Department and their K9 unit, our narcotics officers and patrol deputies,” Igo said. “It’s a good thing when we can pool our joint resources and bring these cases to a successful conclusion.”
