First Methodist Church, 903 Broadway, Minden, welcomes Helen Nelson as the new organist and choir accompaniest.

Helen was organist at First Baptist Minden for more than 30 years before retiring June 25, 2023. She has filled in at other churches since that time but decided recently to return to the organ bench.

“It’s not about me, it’s a service…it’s a calling,” Helen said during a previous interview. “God gave me what I needed to fulfill that calling.”

Now God has given her the same purpose in another church and denomiation.

Music Ministry Director Dr. Dan Gibbs said Helen understands the working of the organ, as well as the worship service.

“She has no problem fitting in with us and is such a wonderful addition,” Gibbs said. “She has a true gift.

Helen will be playing during First Methodist’s traditional service at 10:30 a.m. each Sunday and accompanying the 5:30 p.m. Thursday night rehearsals of the Chancel Choir, which meets in the Earl Cooke Music Suite at First Methodist. Rev. Steve Berger is pastor.
