Dr. Rebecca Wilson has always led with passion, authenticity, and heart. After serving as principal of Minden High School for several years, Wilson is beginning an exciting new chapter as the personnel director for Webster Parish School District.
She replaces Robin Tucker who is transitioning into retirement after a 33 year career in education. Dr. Wilson will begin her responsibilities in this new role beginning July 1, 2024 and the district is now in the process of advertising for the position of principal at Minden High School to replace Dr. Wilson prior to the start of the 2024-25 school year.
Wilson’s journey into education started at a young age, attending Minden High herself as a student. She went on to play softball for the Lady Tiders, a point of pride she carried with her when the school opened a new state-of-the-art softball complex funded by the community during her tenure as principal.
“When our community agreed to build the new multi-purpose building on the campus, they saw the same vision we had of growth and improving opportunities for our students,” Wilson shared. Forging strong connections between the school and the wider Minden community was always one of her top priorities.
Under Wilson’s leadership, Minden High made major strides in facilities and resources for students. But her greatest impact went far beyond bricks and mortar. Wilson formed deep bonds with students, teachers, and staff, considering their stories and struggles as her driving inspiration.
She recalls one recent graduate whose journey through profound personal adversity—being left to fend for herself, working jobs to get by while still attending school—represented the resilience of Minden’s students. “To see this student graduate and have the opportunity to go and do bigger and better things is overwhelming,” Wilson says.
While she can’t share private details, Wilson found motivation in celebrating the victories, however quiet, of the school’s students and supporting her passionate staff however she could. “We get paid in the great reward of changing lives,” she reflects.
In her new role, Wilson hopes to bring the same community-oriented, student-focused approach to managing personnel across Webster Parish schools. Her vision is to create pathways for employees to continually grow, just as she championed at Minden High. Colleagues like assistant principal LaTonya Gavin and future teacher Jeremy Reamer provide proof of that mission in action.
“Helping our own people see a bigger vision is very important to me,” Wilson says. With her relationship-building skills and deep firsthand experience at the school level, she is well-equipped to do just that as personnel director.
While the role overseeing staffing across the district will present new challenges, Wilson has spent her career turning difficulties into opportunities with the help of mentors like former principal Robin Tucker. “With her help and my passion to serve others, I believe that even the challenges will prove to be amazing opportunities,” Wilson states.
Those who know Rebecca Wilson have no doubt she will make the most of this new beginning while staying true to the principles that made her a beloved leader at Minden High: hard work, dedication to others, and leading not just with the mind, but also with the heart.
Wilson is an experienced educator who has served in various leadership roles, including as the principal of Minden High School from 2017 to present. She has a Doctor of Education degree from Northwestern State University, focusing on Adult Learning and Development with a concentration in Community College Administration.
As principal of Minden High School, Wilson was the instructional leader overseeing over 800 students and 90 faculty and staff members. She was responsible for curriculum choices, scheduling, teacher mentorship, discipline, evaluations, community outreach, and more. Under her leadership, the school improved its performance score letter grade.
Prior to being principal, Wilson served as an assistant principal at Minden High from 2014-2017 and as a secondary teacher at Lakeside Jr./Sr. High School from 2009-2014, teaching English, speech, and other courses. She has also taught dual enrollment and adjunct courses at the university level.
Wilson has held other leadership positions such as serving as a district/state director for a U.S. Congressman and as the executive director of the Governor’s Program on Abstinence in Louisiana.
She has received numerous awards and recognition, including being named Webster Parish High School Principal of the Year multiple times, Minden’s Woman of the Year in 2020, and earning awards for grant writing and professional development presentations.
Wilson’s mission is to encourage, engage, and equip others to achieve by creating a culture where students and teachers are valued and empowered for growth. She sees herself as a servant leader dedicated to a cause greater than herself.
